Graduate Transfer Nick Norton Joins Drake Men’s Basketball Team

The newest addition to the Bulldogs’ roster is the son of Randy and Claire Norton and the Norton family has strong ties to Iowa. Randy, who is currently the head women’s basketball coach at UAB, played both basketball and baseball at the University of Iowa. On the hardwood, he was a guard on the 1979 Big Ten Championship team and the 1980 Final Four team. He would eventually spend three seasons playing baseball in the Montreal Expos’ organization before transitioning to coaching. Print Friendly Version The 5-foot, 10-inch point guard started all 32 games for UAB in 2017-18 and averaged 7.5 points while dishing out 4.9 assists per game. As a freshman, he was one of 21 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year Award finalists and named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. Norton graduated from Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic High School where he led the team to a 2A state title as a senior and scored 25 points in the title game.
