News story: Home Secretary’s statement on the Westminster incident

first_imgHome Secretary, Sajid Javid, said: Firstly my thoughts are with the members of the public that were injured in this incident. Thankfully none of them received life threatening injuries and I would like to take this opportunity to wish them a speedy recovery. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency services for the speed in which they responded and apprehended, immediately, the suspect. It is a reminder to us all the work that they do day in and day out to keep us safe. I have received a briefing on the incident from the Head of Counter-Terrorism Policing and the Security Services. Obviously it is a live investigation and there is a limit to what I can say at this point, but we must give the police the time they need to do their work and they will be providing regular updates. And lastly, I would also like to thank the people of London. This is not the first time we have seen an incident of this type on the streets. I would like to thank them for their resolve and the resilience they have shown – and determination to make sure that those who seek to exploit these types of incident will not be allowed to divide us. Find out more about the support available if you have been affected by the incident in Westminster.last_img read more

Report Reply 0 replies · active 373 weeks ago +19 Vote up Vote down JUSTICE NOT SERVED · 373 weeks ago This is CRAZY!!!! THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THIS CASE!!!!!!! He KILLED 2 innocent people who had kids and family waiting for them at home. This is no where close to justice! How could you justify this. He is pretty much going to be walking as a free man. 3 years in jail and house arrest then he can walk as a free man while 4 children are with out a parent because he chose to drive while drinking. Michael and Elizabeth will never get to see their children grow up. Their families will never be the same. As for Miles he should have at least 10 years and double the community service, no drivers license for the rest of his life. He should have to explain to the family why he chose to drink and knowing he was drunk get behind a wheel and drive. There is no poor Miles in this case. No I don’t feel sorry for his family either, because they will never have to go through what he put those poor families through. DON’T try to tell me he will have to live with the guilt when the mater of the fact like I have pointed out HE CHOSE TO DRINK, HE CHOSE TO DRIVE DRUNK. He wasn’t forced he CHOSE to. Report Reply 1 reply · active 258 weeks ago +13 Vote up Vote down Dumbfounded · 373 weeks ago Absolutely ridiculous!!! 60 days for 2 lives? 4 kids without one of their parents for the rest of their lives! I couldn’t believe this when I read it in the Wichita Eagle this morning. He killed 2 people while he driving while under the influence and the judge basicly says that’s ok. Something’s not right! Theurer is the son of Gary Theurer of Wellington and the nephew of Larry Theurer of Theurer’s Auction. Miles nor Gary are in no way associated with Theurer’s Auction/Realty LLC in Wellington.Theurer was driving a pickup truck that crashed into a car the morning of May 14, 2012. The collision killed the car’s occupants, Michael Stanley and Elizabeth Young, who were both 31 years old.During his probation, Theurer must speak to at least three dozen schools and churches about the dangers of drunken driving. Elizabeth Young, 31, and Michael Stanley, 31, were killed. Young was the mother of two. Stanley was a father of two. The couple was engaged to be married. Blood tests showed Theurer’s blood alcohol was .19 – the legal limit is .08.Prosecutor Barry Wilkerson said the conviction carries the presumptive sentence of 38 to 43 months in jail, about 3 to 4 years. Wilkerson filed notice Tuesday that he will be pursuing more jail-time for Theurer, according to an Associated Press report.During his 60 days in jail, Bosch told Theurer he would have to write a plan to conduct outreach to prevent drunk drivers from killing people. Then he is supposed to conduct this outreach at least 36 times while he is under house arrest. Reports did not indicate that Theurer has any experience or training in the area of alcohol and substance abuse counseling. Despite being under house arrest, Theurer is reportedly free to continue going to college classes.last_img read more
