The head of human resources at contract caterer Gardner Merchant has quitfollowing a shake-up of the HR department.John Stacey resigned this month because of a decision to split HR among thefirm’s business units. Two divisional HR directors have taken over Stacey’s role until it isdecided whether to fill the post. A spokeswoman for Gardner Merchant said muchof Stacey’s remit had disappeared as a result of the restructuring.”Following the changes John Stacey decided to leave,” she said.”He felt his strengths lay elsewhere and he decided he wanted to pursueother options.”The spokeswoman added that no HR jobs would be axed as a result of therestructuring. It is not yet known whether staff will have to relocate.Gardner Merchant, which employs about 55,000 staff in the UK, has lost atleast 10 senior managers in the past two and a half years, including itschairman and managing director in the past three months.It plans to expand its services and wants to bring HR closer to individualbusiness units in order to handle the changes.
