Bolton could not afford to pay players in November

first_img1 Bolton confirm players have not been paid in November Cash-strapped Bolton have confirmed they have been unable to pay their players for the month of November. The crisis-hit club, who are currently bottom of the Championship, revealed the news just hours before their clash with Brentford on Monday night.Wanderers say the reason is a “short-term funding issue” and is due to “the ongoing situation surrounding the club’s ownership off the field”.Bolton are £172.9million in debt and are up for sale, with owner Eddie Davies prepared to write off that figure in loans owed to him as part of any takeover.A consortium led by ex-Wanderers striker Dean Holdsworth is understood to be interested in buying the club.Wanderers last week appointed advisor Trevor Birch to help negotiate with interested investors after revealing chairman Phil Gartside was “seriously ill”.A club statement read: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club can today, Monday 30 November, confirm that the first-team playing squad are yet to receive their wages for the month of November.“This is due to the ongoing situation surrounding the club’s ownership off the field.”Birch added: “This is due to a short-term funding issue. We are working hard behind the scenes and hope to have this resolved in a quick and timely manner and I will be meeting the players tomorrow to update them.”last_img read more

Can these 10 Premier League stars challenge for next year’s Ballon d’Or?

first_imgThe Ballon d’Or ceremony takes place in Zurich later today with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi the hot favourite to dethrone arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo and claim his fourth title.Ronaldo and Messi’s Barca team-mate Neymar are also shortlisted for the award, but after the Catalans romped to five trophies in 2015 the Argentine is hotly tipped to claim victory. One noticeable aspect of the shortlist is the absence of any Premier League representatives for the sixth year in a row as a result of England’s elite clubs falling further and further behind their European counterparts. But could the Premier League launch a renaissance in 2016? Several stars have been in scintillating form in recent months – but could they really bring an end to Messi and Ronaldo’s era of dominance?talkSPORT takes a look at 10 players who could stake a claim and power ranked their chances – click the yellow arrow above, right, to see who made our list… 1. Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) – After an extraordinary year with club and country, Sanchez will have to go some way to improve on his exploits but, once he returns to fitness, the Chilean will hopefully build on his brilliant achievements. When fully fit, very few can rival his talents in the Premier League and that move away from Barcelona in 2014 has allowed for greater time in the spotlight where his ability can be truly appreciated. If Arsenal win the league this season, Sanchez will need to be an integral part of their bid. 10. Anthony Martial (Manchester United) – Martial, at times, has been the saving grace for United in a hugely uninspiring season so far as the 19-year-old has showed no signs of intimidation after that hefty summer transfer fee. If deployed in the right way, the Frenchman has the blistering pace and finishing ability to carry on setting the Premier League alight. 5. Harry Kane (Tottenham) – England’s sole representative in our list, Kane’s meteoric rise is showing no signs of slowing as the Tottenham striker reached 50 club goals on Sunday against Leicester. His no-nonsense style endears himself to fans across the country and, with a move to Real Madrid mooted in the summer, he could really put himself on the global map in 2016. 3. Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) – Three seasons after his £42.5m arrival from Real Madrid, Ozil is finally exuding the class we all knew he occupies. The German already has an amazing 16 Premier League assists – just four short of Thierry Henry’s top-flight record with 19 games left to break it – and he is currently the inspiration behind Arsenal’s most convincing title challenge in a decade. 10 10 10 10 8. Willian (Chelsea) – Chelsea’s player of the season by a million miles has stepped out of the shadows of the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar to, like Martial at United, almost singlehandedly keep the Blues afloat so far in a dismal campaign. He has added a killer instinct and cutting edge to his hardworking displays, including an incredible potency from free kicks which now ranks him as one of the best from dead-ball situations around. 10 9. Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool) – Although not at his best in recent months after being plagued by hamstring injuries, Coutinho is the kind of luxury player who, given he finds consistency, can challenge for individual awards. Under Jurgen Klopp, the ‘little magician’ should be allowed to flourish and you wouldn’t bet against him emulating his PFA Player of the Year award nomination from last season. 10 6. David de Gea (Manchester United) – Goalkeepers are largely ignored when it comes to individual awards but the success of Manuel Neuer – who finished third in last year’s Ballon d’Or vote – suggests more recognition may be on its way. De Gea hasn’t needed to be quite as impeccable as last season but his quiet brilliance ensures that he remains the Premier League’s standout stopper. If his dream move to Real Madrid materialises in the summer, the Spaniard may well put himself into contention. 7. Riyad Mahrez (Leicester) – Why not? The top flight’s player of the season so far epitomises the revolution taking place under Claudio Ranieri at Leicester so far this campaign. 13 goals and six assists in 19 Premier League games is simply electric form and, unsurprisingly, he’s attracting interest from European heavyweights across the continent. Could a big move propel him into global contention? 10 4. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) – When fit, Aguero remains the Premier League’s standout finisher but his injury record is proving a persistent obstacle to individual recognition. It is a travesty that the Argentine has never won PFA Player of the Year, let alone challenged for world awards, but if he can help Manchester City to domestic and European success by May, who says that can’t change this season? 10 10 10 2. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – De Bruyne has shrugged off his sizeable £56m price tag after his move from Wolfsburg to register a brilliant 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions in his debut season in England. The Belgian is incredibly clinical with his delivery and decision making, ensuring he has elevated himself to one of the finest playmakers in world football. A good Euro 2016 with Belgium could see him push the likes of Messi and Ronaldo close come this time next year. last_img read more

Understanding senior relocation services

first_imgAdam’s parents died nearly a decade ago, so when the time comes for his grandmother, Alice, to relocate from her family home someplace better suited for her age and ability to self-manage, Adam, 31, will be taking the reins. The Lawndale resident gets the sense that the time has come to broach the subject with Alice, 84, and to start exploring options – as she has indicated that she “just might” be ready to make a move. Meanwhile, Adam, despite being close to Alice, knows that persuading her to take advice from somebody two generations her junior won’t be easy. Working with her to establish a new life at an assisted-living professional care facility could provide either a penultimate bonding experience, or a total nightmare, depending on several things. Regardless of how it pans out, Adam knows he needs help – with how to proceed and where to turn for expert assistance. To that end, he has asked about “senior relocation services” consultants. AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREChargers go winless in AFC West with season-ending loss in Kansas CityThe financial picture Alice, a widow for more 18 years, has a combined monthly retirement income of about $5,000. Adam intends to contribute $1,000 for Alice’s well-being when she moves, via an account left by his parents for that purpose. However, Alice insists that he won’t be spending a dime. Alice’s condominium, two hours northeast of Los Angeles, is worth an estimated $290,000. Plan of action For starters, Adam should encourage Alice to maintain involvement in legal and financial decision-making. Having the “life-management authority” to which she is accustomed to suddenly usurped from her entirely could cause serious resentment issues and sidetrack the noble undertaking Adam plans to pursue. The inability to manage personal affairs marks a potentially upsetting time for many seniors. Adam should take care not to make Alice seem helpless when her involvement comes into question. The following should help guide what will be a multifaceted, possibly lengthy process. Map out a basic plan. First, consult H.E.L.P. at 310-533-1996. The nonprofit organization designed to assist in senior issues. It can offer ideas for laying out a concise, easily organized financial plan in which both Adam and Alice play equal parts in managing decisions, budget inputs, and lifestyle arrangements that will keep each party in the loop. That should benefit their relationships – now both personal and business – and deter or prevent alienation. Seek out experienced professional advisers. The moving process is exhausting for anybody, but for a senior whose health is deteriorating, the stress can cause actual physical problems. So it’s smart to get others involved to lighten the loads for Adam and Alice. Choosing wisely when selecting a relocation service – professionals who specialize in relocating seniors and minimizing stressful moving jams – is paramount. Using a full-fledged moving planner will cost more than a simple moving company. Relocation services for seniors usually run about $50 to $75 an hour during the planning phase. Also, there are external service charges for whatever needs handling, from dealing with new-facility contracts to arranging for sale of valuables, to handling utilities and other basics at either end. But that help may be worth every penny to Adam, who is unschooled in such matters. It is important to choose a local planner with the appropriate credentials and good, trackable references (many people ask for references from prospective service providers and then don’t actually check them out). Another benefit of using a moving planner is that seniors who may be pushed out of the decision-making process otherwise are allowed, by design, total control over how the move plays out. Sweating the details. Many relocation advisers are associated with national organizations such as Relocation Planners LLC (877-405-7356.) They are also real-estate professionals who may have other credentials and who work on transactional and practical aspects of the move. The planner is responsible for moving the process forward and keeping other individuals involved on task. Lifting that responsibility – of negotiating rates and other financial details – from Alice’s shoulders should allow Alice the free time she needs to catalog everything in her life and begin uprooting herself. The moving planner also will coordinate all important facets of Alice’s new place, a senior-specialized complex, allowing Alice to choose floor plans, furniture, moving dates and rates, freeing her and Adam from the sometimes daunting business of organizing it all. If Adam and Alice work with a senior relocation planner, besides asking for references and credentials, they should get some sort of document detailing the costs of the service – separate from any real-estate costs or other nonplanning associated fees. Beverly Hills to increase free parking today

first_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREPettersson scores another winner, Canucks beat Kings“We have to do everything we can to show the people that shop here that we welcome them,” City Councilman Frank Fenton told City News Service. “We need to compete with all these other shopping centers that are around. One thing that I learned over the years is that people want to shop where they’re welcome. It’s not the money, it’s the thought they have to pay for parking.” Mayor Jimmy Delshad called the return of two-hour free parking “a win- win for the city, merchants and residents.” “It’s a great step for the city of Beverly Hills,” Delshad said. The mayor also said a recent series of meetings in New York City with executives of retailers with stores in Beverly Hills had factored into his support for reinstating the additional hour of free parking. “A lot of them (stores) have their own valet parking, but validating their parking is costing them a lot more than it would cost if people have two- hour free parking,” Delshad said. The city’s parking enterprise fund finances parking structure improvements. Delshad said increasing the length of free parking will cost that fund $1.7 million in this fiscal year. But the city government “will find other ways” to compensate for that loss, Fenton said. “We have plenty of cash in reserve, so I’m not worried about that,” he added.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. BEVERLY HILLS – Starting today, Beverly Hills is once again offering two hours of free parking in four city-owned structures to lure more shoppers to the area. The city had reduced the length of free parking to one hour a year ago to compensate for lower income from sales and hotel taxes. However, complaints from residents and merchants prompted the City Council to vote 5-0 Nov. 13 to reinstitute two hours of free parking. The extended free parking will be available at structures located at 216 S. Beverly Drive; 345 N. Beverly Drive; 9510 Brighton Way and 438 N. Beverly Drive/439 N. Canon Drive. last_img read more
