first_imgHealthInternationalLifestylePrint World’s oldest yoga instructor turns 95 by: – August 13, 2013 Share Tweet 53 Views   no discussions Sharing is caring!center_img Share Share Photo credit: Robert SturmanThe world’s oldest yoga instructor, Tao Porchon-Lynch is celebrating her 95th birthday today, 13th August.Master Porchon-Lynch from White Plains, NY was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records, as the oldest living yoga teacher, in 2012.She is a yoga master, ballroom dancer, oenophile (lover of wine) and former actress.According to the Westchester Magazine, Mrs Porchon-Lynch, along with her husband Bill Lynch helped found the American Wine Society in 1967 and she has been a wine judge and vice-president of its Southern New York State chapter.She co-founded the Yoga Teachers Alliance (now the Yoga Teachers Association) in 1976 and created The Westchester Institute of Yoga in 1982.She has taken lessons and entered competitions since 2002 at the Hartsdale’s Fred Astaire Dance Studio. Photo credit: Robert SturmanAfter the war, in 1945, she modeled for designers, including Marcel Rochas and Jean Patou and acted in films and plays and won a contest for “The Longest Legs in Europe.”During her long yoga career, she has broken a few bones in accidents. At age 78, a fall necessitated a pin being placed in her leg. This caused her hip to overcompensate and, at age 86, she had the hip replaced. “I don’t believe in letting age and broken bones get the better of my life. I believe nothing is impossible,” Mrs Porchon-Lynch told the Westchester Magazine.Her husband of 20 years, Bill Lynch, died in 1982 and there’s a flag and plaque honoring his civic accomplishments at the Hartsdale train station.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
