NORTH HOLLYWOOD — An alleged drunken pursuit left five cars damaged, one flipped and two men in jail, police said today. Shortly after 2 a.m., police believe Kevin Soler, 23, was driving his 1995 Isuzu Rodeo down Universal Way when he smacked into a 1992 Acura Legend driven by Steven Knapp, 22. A chase into the streets of North Hollywood ensued. “Now the hit-and-run vehicle’s being chased by the guy he collided with,” said Sgt. Bill Justice of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic division. “(Soler) loses control, spins out and hits four parked cars. The driver takes off.” When police responded to the crash on Bloomfield Street near Cahuenga Boulevard, they found Knapp, stopped and gawking at Soler’s flipped Rodeo. As they began their investigation, they noticed he appeared intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. While Knapp was being taken into custody, Soler returned to the scene, apparently to check on his vehicle. Police questioned him and found he appeared intoxicated as well and arrested him on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run. Both men failed blood-alcohol tests. “We’re fortunate that no one was seriously hurt,” Justice said. “If they hadn’t crashed, they might have gotten away with the DUI. Instead, they’re in jail.” For more cops and crime news, check out It’s a Crime. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
