Women’s Tennis Opens MVC Tournament Against Missouri State

first_imgWICHITA, Kan. – The Drake University women’s tennis team heads to Wichita, Kan. for the start of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday. The Bulldogs begin quarterfinal action as the three seed and face the sixth-seeded Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Friday.The winner of that match will play at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Crestview Country Club against the winner of No. 2 Southern Illinois and No. 7 Northern Iowa.The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a pair of dominating victories over Bradley and Illinois State last weekend. Drake fell to the Bears, 4-3, in Springfield, Mo. earlier this month. The Bears took a quick 2-0 but the Bulldogs battled back to tie it up 3-3. MSU’s Faty Khamissi defeated Summer Brills, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to secure the win for the Bears.Senior Maddie Johnson, who recorded her 100th singles victory on Sunday, is on a 11-match winning streak and leads the team with a 15-3 dual match record. Sophomore Tess Herder has come on strong for the Bulldogs of late as she is on a five-match winning streak for a 12-7 dual match record. Freshman Joeley leads the squad with a 16-5 doubles record and has went 7-3 in her last 10 singles matches.The Bears split their remaining two duals of the regular season, defeating Evansville, 7-0, before falling to Southern Illinois 6-1. MSU only have two players with a winning singles record, Ema Turudija and Khamissi. Turudjia holds a 13-10 record and has gone 8-2 in her last 10 matches, while Khamissi has a 12-10 record.  Print Friendly Versionlast_img
